I had been a Chief Information Officer for a number of years and knew my job inside and out. However, circumstances were such that I was running into interpersonal challenges and self-doubt and my approaches to solving them were not working. I found Roberta on linkedin and when we spoke, I was impressed with her direct, insightful questions and different way of looking at things. I know I could have engaged an executive coach who was more in my industry or profession and would have received good advice, but Roberta's different background and point of view helped me to see things from different angles than I expected. I especially appreciated how she helped me communicate with others and with myself in a more positive and direct way.
One of the most important things we worked on was my brand, which I had never really thought about. We put together a short list of statements that define what I'm good at, what I intrinsically know about my strengths. This is something I refer back to often, especially when I face challenging situations, and it really helps me to remember and use my strengths to my advantage. I also find it interesting that when people talk about what I'm good at, those same strengths are reflected back.
In addition to our work professionally, Roberta had a profound effect on my home life. Our family had a major change in the fall of 2023, one that challenged my relationship with my spouse in a big way. Even though Roberta is not a counselor, her approach with both of us helped us see each other's positions and understand we were not at odds as much as we were not effectively communicating. Whenever we have a challenge or issue to deal with, we (somewhat jokingly) ask ourselves WWRD (What Would Roberta Do?).
